I’ve recently been introduced to the spoken word community and the people are just so creative in such an emotionally expressive way, which has inspired me greatly. The vulnerability that they allow themselves to feel and share (and to strangers too!) is not something we experience much.

In June 2024, I had the privilege to create and perform with poet Carter Kane. Through a couple rehearsals, we wrote a harp soundtrack to five of his poems. The music consisted of a mix of “audio cues” based on the written imagery (i.e. arpeggios imitating ocean waves in “Attention”) and more background, accompanying melodies/musical patterns that fed off the energy of the respective poem sections (“The Green Dress”).

Playing harp with poetry has become a new line for me, helping me see music in a different perspective, and I look forward to connecting and writing with more poets!
